Kaz

There has never lived a Stark who forgot an oath.

True loyalty is proven, not proclaimed.

Background:Born to Rickon Stark and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Kaz had drawn his first breath on Driftmark but had grown up in Winterfell and the North at the simple request of his father. Rhaenys, albeit reluctant at first had obliged as she felt that it would have been best; she couldn't be seen with a bastard child at her skirts at Driftmark or King's Landing. Even though her Lord husband had his own affairs that he had kept hidden from her for quite some time. She knew the ramifications of her own affair and the consequences would be dire for her and the child. Corlys at the time knew that Rhaenys was with child and had assumed that it was his, after all he didn't have reason to assume anything from her. Yet The Sea Snake still left his wife's side to go on his sea voyages. Upon his return however she had played it off that the babe died shortly after being born. And he might as well have been. Rhaenys had flown with him on her dragon Meleys as she relinquished him to the North and before she had departed she'd given Rickon the dragon egg that she'd brought with her and instructed that he was to be raised with it. He had Targaryen blood in him no matter which way you spin it and still deserved to have a dragon egg placed in his cradle as most have before him. However his father did adhere to what his mother instructed, it just wasn't meant to be that he was to have a dragon. The egg became petrified due to the lack of incubation and vital warmth it needed.Rickon ensured that their son would be well protected within the walls of Winterfell than Kings Landing or even Driftmark. As prickly as he may be at times he wanted to keep Rhaenys' reputation in tact so that it would not be besmirched. When Kaz was younger, he would take his petrified egg and try to place it near the hearth in his chambers with hopes of it eventually hatching and he oftentimes slept with it as it brought him an unexplainable sense of comfort. And a hobby he found he was rather good at such a young age is sketching. Before going to sleep, he would sit on his bed and draw Meleys; although that would be considered cute in any other circumstance it was odd because he was never exposed to or seen The Red Queen, let alone any dragon for that matter. Granted the only time he was, he was a newborn only a few days into his existence and his memory was far too fragile to even remember her or Rhaenys.Kaz was well taken care of in the North, he received a formal education with the maester, trained with their master-at-arms alongside his half-brother Cregan and the other bastard child from another woman, his half-sister Sara. He surprisingly got on well with Cregan who was a bit younger than him and Sara who was a bit older than him by a few years. He wasn't treated too poorly given his circumstance. Those few who had surrounded his Lord father had suggested that Kaz be sent to the wall as a small mercy, citing that his presence would tarnish the Stark name and it's long standing noble reputation. But Rickon wasn't having it, so whenever word had reached his ears that someone treated Kaz unfairly or spoke slander of/to him, his father would deal with it in an appropriate manner. Even Cregan had often stood up for him more times than he could count. However Kaz knew that everyone was well in their rights to look down upon him as he knew what he was just as he often believed he was of no consequence and only had the life he had due to the honorable nature of his father. Perhaps he was a reminder of his father's mistake? Or maybe his father did love him, he wasn't too sure.Kaz was around when their father had died and when their uncle Bennard Stark took the mantle and ruled the north as regent in Cregan's stead. His brother was not of age yet deemed to rule although he was but he wasn't entitled to anything. Their uncle and his sons had loathed Kaz, but Cregan was there to ensure no harm came to him. When his brother was finally of age at sixteen, Bennard was incredibly slow to relinquish his power to Cregan which caused some issues. Kaz had helped gather some of the northern houses to his brothers cause of reclaiming what was rightfully his now and eventually they were able to retake Winterfell without further fuss. Cregan has been ruling the the north with no issues since. They eventually had Bennard and his three sons imprisoned, giving the sons options to take The Black but the two oldest Benjen and Brandon spat at his and Cregan's feet, while Elric reluctantly decided to go. During all this Kaz had showed a strong strategic mindset although being a young pup himself, but it was all thanks to their father and his knowledge and shared wisdom he instilled in him. After that event he thought about it for a while and Kaz didn't wish to be a burden on his family any longer and made a formal request to leave of the North. His brother had reluctantly granted the request and Kaz decided last minute that he was going to take Sara with him. She often talked about how she wished to see places other than the dreary North and now she had the opportunity to. However, there were a couple of conditions that came with his leave request: to keep in touch, no matter where they had ended up and if anything happened to either of them they were to come back home. Both had agreed to it.As Kaz was trying to figure out where to actually go, Sara suggested Kings Landing as she heard that they had ample opportunities there and can be nobody's. King's Landing for unknown reasons, seemed to be appealing and was calling to him. He already held some knowledge about the city because he traveled there along with his father when he swore obeisance to Princess Rhaenyra some years ago.☆☆☆Kings Landing: After Swearing Fealty.Kaz remembers that they didn't depart straight away after offering their fealty to the Princess. Instead they stayed for ten days after, mainly because it was quite taxing to travel from the far reaches of the North to the South and vice versa.
During his stay, he took time to explore the Red Keep whilst his father was busy holding an audience with King Viserys. Kaz always wondered what business that needed to be tended to. From his knowledge, the North kept to themselves and hardly relied on outsiders help, let alone the crown. These were matters beyond his curiosity however.
While he had leave to roam around, there were times that he saw Princess Rhaenyra and immediately thought that she was quite striking. Targaryen's are known for their ethereal beauty and honestly, she was the embodiment of that. He found himself often just staring when she was seen in the Red Keep, awestruck each time. While he managed to find random secret passages on his exploration, he ended up finding a room where Balerion's skull was displayed, eyes had immediately widened in surprise when he went to examine the altar area for the great beast. As he approached his mouth immediately hung open, absolutely awe struck at the size of the skull. Kaz imagined what it must've been like for Aegon the Conqueror to have tamed such a large and formidable beast. Oh how great it would have been to say you claimed the largest dragon to ever live. Then his imagination ran wild that he was riding into battle on him and he couldn't help but smile. He had to remind himself that it was silly to daydream of such.
The altar for Balerion was probably his favorite area he 'discovered' within the keep. But once he left the area, he found another doorway that he'd slipped through and found himself in the city. The Red Keep had her many secrets it seems and he was hesitant at first to press further but his curiosity got the better of him.
He did not venture too far into the city, at least he didn't think he did but was drawn to certain places such as Visenya's Hill which was near the Street of Silk. Street of Silk was where a majority of the brothels were located and he avoided them for the most part. He wanted no part in that. Rhaenys' Hill was near Flea Bottom, which housed the Dragon pit. Kaz had not dared to get close enough to the dragon pit from the hill; although the temptation and curiosity was always there. He kept his distance, enough to where he could hear the dragons that resided there sing an chortle. He would sit on a rock and listen to the dragons, as it was soothing to hear. There were a few times where he felt so relaxed by listening to them that he caught himself dozing off, laying against a rock.☆☆☆King's Landing: Life After Winterfell. When Kaz left Winterfell and finally arrived in King's Landing he quickly found himself a decent apartment, bargaining with plenty of people until he was able to find one willing to accept him as a tenant. The coin he had saved over the years and with the funds his father had given to him that he saved and ones that his brother had sent him off with, he was able to find a nice place that he was able to share with his sister at least for a few months until she found work in one of the many taverns. Eventually she was able to save her own money so she could find herself her own apartment, which after ten months or so she moved out of his place and into to her own, not too far from where he lived. It wasn't until a few years later that he found out that Madame Sylvi had taken Sara into her employ by having her work at her brothel to pay off a debt that she apparently had owed the woman. This had never sat well with him but there was nothing he could do. At least not yet. Sylvi tried to manipulate him into working for her but he was too keen to how she worked to go for it.Kaz's own home was around the Street of Flour, which consisted of a plethora of bakeries and shops that sold baked foods and goods and he really couldn't have picked a better spot honestly. It was that or down where the smiths worked, but he would not have liked hearing constant banging, nor the constant ringing of his ears form the said banging. While living in the city, he took the opportunity to learn more about her people and the different parts that he had chosen to avoid when he was last here. The Street of Silk he was familiar with as he would have to come through from time to time and the Street of Steel, where plenty of blacksmiths had their businesses worked and lived, he'd come here a few times to have things made or repaired. However, one place he had always avoided was Pisswater Bend, simply because that was the worst of the worst of Flea Bottom and the city in general in his opinion.
Kaz found work as a humble delivery guy (think medieval Door Dash or FedEx) for a shop that he lives nearby. He makes his way through the city by foot and really only goes to the areas he often avoids when there's deliveries to be made. He quickly leaves after he does what he needs to do and collects payments.
In his free time, he will often go to his favorite places in the city and bring his sketching supplies and get lost in his hobby.

Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.

Features:Once Kaz had left the infancy stage and grown older the dark brown of his hair was more dominant, he had a slight silver streak of hair on the back of his head, but eventually that had darkened and he "lost" it once he was six and ten. Or perhaps it was just buried under the tufts of his hair. Starks are known to have their own striking features and dark hair was one of them, as well as grey eyes or flecks of grey in their eyes. When he was a baby all the way up until he was around ten and three, his eyes had kept the pale grey coloration, but it changed to a blue color once maturity had hit. Although it's not noticeable by most, he has hints of lilac around the iris root of his eyes.Relationships:Kaz, by pure chance, runs into Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the city when he's on his way to the brothel his sister works. They immediately form an unlikely friendship that quickly blossoms into an actual relationship.Claimant of Vermithor; Bloodline in question:After their relationship has grown further in secret, Rhaenyra takes Kaz to Dragonstone where she introduces him to the dragons in the Dragonmont, as well as her inherited seat. During that little tour, Vermithor senses them and begins to stir and follow the pair until he decides to make himself visible. Of course Rhaenyra isn't bothered by it but when the dragon begins sizing Kaz up, it initially scares the shit out of him as he's not used to being around dragons, especially one as large as Vermithor. However an odd sense of calm takes over as he looks the dragon in his eye(s) ready to accept whatever was to come.Vermithor doesn't burn him and instead bends his neck to Kaz in acceptance. To say that he was extremely confused at what just transpired, Rhaenyra tells him that he was just claimed by the dragon. It was an impressive feat considering the dragon was extremely finicky towards people. Dragons speak loudly when they accept a rider and Vermithor saw something in Kaz that reminds him of his previous rider, Jaehaerys. Kaz then begins to sharply question everything he thought he knew about himself as his Targaryen lineage is now brought forward by Vermithor choosing him.Kaz learned through Rhaenyra that in order to claim a dragon someone had to have Valyrian blood in them. As far as he knows he absolutely does not. He's just a northern bastard, at least he always grown up to think that. The signs of his lineage were always there, he just never paid at attention to them because he never had any reason to suspect he was anything special. One example was after an encounter with Rhaenyra and Syrax early on during their relationship, he’d felt a sudden calmness around her dragon. Syrax even let him get close enough to her without trying to burn him or snap at him unlike most people Rhaenyra takes to meet her.Legitimation:Rhaenyra had Kaz follow her and Syrax back to Kings Landing on Vermithor and she immediately brought him before King Viserys and he was questioned sharply, during the questioning Rhaenyra brought up his Targaryen traits that she saw or noticed. Viserys later inspected him and saw them too which he then deemed worthy to be recognized as a Targaryen after much thought and Rhaenyra's prattling. Kaz was finally able to shed the Snow/Waters name and become a Targaryen. His legitimacy ceremony was a family spectacle, being held in the throne room much to Alicent's and Otto's dismay. It's to note that his legitimacy was never recognized by Alicent or the Greens for that matter. In fact it was partially due to the fact that she held so much disdain for Rhaenyra and was utterly jealous towards her and towards Kaz for that matter since he rejected her advances on him several times.Kaz from the get go was one of Rhaenyra's loyal and firm champions to her challenged but legitimate claim. Over time with training from the Dragon keepers and with Rhaenyra's help Kaz became a skilled dragonrider and proficient at the High Valyrian language.Family:Kaz and Rhaenyra end up having seven children together; Jacaerys, Lucerys, Valarr, Joffrey, Aegon, Viserys and Visenya. Because Alicent is a bitter jealous bitch she, Criston Cole and Otto begin to plant the seeds of doubt around the castle and elsewhere about how Kaz isn't the father of Rhaenyra’s children and instead she had laid with their sworn protector, Ser Harwin.
